Want to know a secret: I am not one for high fashion. I am a girl that likes to dress for comfort, and to me, that means t-shirts and jeans. Day in, day out, that is what you will likely see me in. I never thought I would write a blog post on fashion, and yet here I am.
A few months ago, my husband came home from work and started telling me about Stitch Fix. I had heard about it online but didn’t really know too much about it. After reading more about it (HERE), we both decided to give it a try.
How does it work?
So what is Stitch Fix? Basically, it is a personal stylist service. They pick out five items for you to try at home, and then you keep what you want and send back the rest (shipping is free both ways). You are charged a $20 styling fee when they ship your order, but that is applied as a credit when you purchase something from that order. The credit does not carry over, so if you decide not to keep anything, then you lose the credit.
After signing up for Stitch Fix, we downloaded the app to our phones. From there, we decided how often we wanted to receive a fix. You can get a box automatically every month or every other month, or you can manually choose how often you would like to get a box. There is no minimum, so if you decide you don’t like it after one box, you don’t have to get more (make sure to cancel or set it on manual if this is the case).
The next step is to take your style quiz. You give them all of your measurements and tell them how you prefer your clothes to fit. Do you have features you want to show off or downplay? Let them know. Under the style sections, you will see different choices of clothes and you rate how you like each style. You also tell them what occasions you need clothes for (work, casual, special events, date night or a night out), what styles and accessories you want to include, and what items or colors you want to avoid. The next section goes over the price range that you prefer for each category. I am not one that likes to spend a lot on clothes, so my items are either $50-100 or the cheaper, the better.
The final section has a few about you questions and has a spot to link to your social media profiles (Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, Pinterest). Setting up a style board on Pinterest and adding a link to that board is actually the key to getting items that you will love. This link will take you to the Pinterest board for the fixes we have received, and this link will take you to the board that I use for inspiration. What to expect with your first fix
Getting a fix feels like opening a Christmas present when you were a kid. Seriously, it does! At the top, you will find a note from your stylist and a style sheet showing you how to combine different items. There is also a price list. If you purchase all 5 items, you receive a 25% discount.
Now the fun part. Try on each item and decide if you want to keep it or return it. You have 3 days to decide what you want to keep before you need to send items back. When you are ready to check out, go into your Stitch Fix App and click on check out. It will show you each item. Click whether you are keeping or returning the item and then fill out what you liked or didn’t like about the item. Giving your stylist feedback helps them get to know you and your style better.
A priority envelope is included with your fix, so just place the items you want to return inside, and place it in a mailbox.
What we have loved about Stitch Fix
For me, the best part is having someone else pick out items that will look good on me. I have received items that I probably wouldn’t have picked for myself at a store, but I have liked once I tried it on. The convenience of not having to go shopping and try things on at the store is well worth it too. I can try clothes on and see how it works with other items that I own. And finally, every pair of jeans that I have tried on from Stitch Fix has been SO comfortable.
My husband has loved Stitch Fix because he can finally find business clothes that fit him properly. He has an athletic build with broad shoulders. Unfortunately, most shirts that fit his shoulders are way too big for his waistline. Every shirt he has received from Stitch Fix has fit him well.
