I came across this cookie recipe years ago on Pinterest, and it has been a favorite ever since. They are chewy and fudgy and absolutely wonderful. Topped with a Hershey hug or candy cane kiss makes them the perfect holiday cookie.
Update 12/23/18-While making cookies this year, I accidentally added more butter than usual and found that it made the cookie softer and taste even better. I have also found that measuring the flour carefully is important with these cookies. Too much flour will make them kind of dry, so I tend to put just under the amount in the recipe. Thanks for sharing this recipe and enjoy!
Chocolate Hug Cookies
4 Tbsp. margarine
6 Tbsp. softened butter
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp baking soda
2 tsp. vanilla
2 eggs
1 1/2 cups flour
3/4 cup cocoa powder
Using a hand or stand mixer, beat together margarine, butter, and sugars at medium speed. Mix in vanilla and eggs. Mix flour, cocoa, salt, and baking soda in a separate bowl and then add to mixture. Mix until combined. Preheat oven to 350. Line pans with parchment paper. Roll 1 Tbsp. of dough into a ball and place onto the pan for each cookie. Bake for 10 minutes at 350. This recipe makes 28-30 cookies.
Allow cookies to cool for 5 minutes and then top with a Hershey Hug or Candy cane Kiss. Enjoy warm or cool completely before sharing. 😃
For the past few years, I have made goodie plates at Christmas time for neighbors using these cookies, dipped chocolate pretzels, and my incredibly delicious Banana Bread. They are always a huge hit!
If I need a lot of cookies, then I will double the batch above. A 10 oz. bag of Hershey kisses usually contains about 60 kisses which are the perfect amount for a double batch.
